Juniperous was founded in 2012 to highlight the profound interconnection of humans and the earth, and to illuminate the importance of planetary health and sustainable products. Our founder imagined a brand that is good for the human body and good for the planet; one that protects water, sequesters carbon, and gives back more than it takes.
For 10 years, we made certified biodegradable hemp and organic cotton clothing which was naturally dyed by hand, garment by garment. We connected directly with our customers through our storefront, website, and at many events where our founder taught about natural fibers, local natural dyes, ecology, and the meaning of truly sustainable products. We also had the great honor of being carried by some amazing boutiques who work hard to emphasize natural-fiber clothing and sustainability. We made garments completely free of all forms of plastic and toxic industrial dyes, all the way down to the thread they were sewn with, and worked diligently at growing the company. Many years of effort revealed the true challenges of scaling a clothing line that met our standard, and we learned how deeply challenging true sustainability becomes when manufacturing leaves the confines of a small intentional sewing floor and enters the world of large-scale production. In 2019 we were invited to present our line at Berlin Fashion Week and had to make the very difficult decision of declining the invitation. We explored scaled manufacturing options, and were unable to find a U.S. manufacturer who met our sustainability standards at the time. Shortly thereafter, we made another difficult decision, which was to pause production entirely and shift focus to other projects and aspects of life.
Even though we haven’t been producing new designs in recent years many of you have continued to support Juniperous, ordering custom pieces, ceremonial dresses, and our remaining stock from previous productions.
Thank You, From The Bottom Of Our Hearts
